After using the mini to-do lists for a few days I realized I needed a few more ways to mark them up. You can see the basic methods below.
The Strikethrough
The strikethrough indicates you did it. Congratulations! Unlike baseball, three strikes is a good thing.
Brush Teeth
Get Dressed
The Circle
The circle indicates you did as much as possible at the time. For example, if you go to the bank and the bank is closed due to a holiday you forgot (Columbus Day) you can circle that item and move on to another one.
The circle helps you to “chip away” at big projects. For example, if you want to “Buy a New Computer” and you take a small step (“Research MacBook Pro”) you can circle the parent item and then move on to another one.
The circle also helps you develop new habits and work on open-ended goals. For example, if you want to “Get in Shape” and you take a small step (“Walk 2 Miles”) you can circle the parent item and then move on to another one.
Research MacBook Pro
Get in Shape
The X-Out
The x-out indicates you changed your mind about doing something. There is nothing wrong with this, but it is not the same as finishing something.
Buy Ugly Sweater
Buy Hat for Jen
No Mark
No mark indicates you made no attempt whatsoever to do the item. By using three-item mini to-do lists you should be able to avoid these.

The Challenge – Step by Step
1. Take a few slow, deep breaths to clear your mind.
2. Ask yourself, “What are the next three things that I am going to do?”
3. Write those three things down on a Post-it note or piece of paper.
4. Start working on one of them immediately.
5. Do everything you can to complete all three.
6. Mark each one accordingly.
7. Repeat.
